The Physical Therapy Aide program is 15 weeks and goes beyond the basic physical therapy aide modalities, to provide the student with comprehensive and practical applications of bodywork. This certification, working in conjunction with a Massage Therapy Certification will not only enhance your knowledge of bodywork, but will also open a whole new area of career opportunities. Under the direction of a licensed physical therapist, physical therapy aides are skilled health care workers who help when a patient is receiving treatment and traction. Aides instruct, motivate and assist patients with learning and improving functional activities. Students will learn the techniques and procedures for massage therapy and other body conditioning treatments. Students will not only learn how to set-up and maintain a physical therapy treatment room, but also learn the basic practices in using physical measures in the treatment of disease and injury. These physical measures include: therapeutic exercises, massage, joint mobilization, hydrotherapy, immobilization techniques, as well as utilization of
   physiotherapy equipment such as ultrasound and diathermy.
The course is designed to familiarize the student with human anatomy and physiology, patient needs, injuries to the muscle and skeletal systems, and prepare the student to assist and direct patients in the rehabilitation process.
The physical therapy aide program presents courses in records management, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. The course teaches the background theory relevant to working in the physical therapy setting, this theory includes: observation, patient charting and reporting, patient care, gait training, range of motion, and other specialized therapies, assembling and maintaining equipment and supplies. Wheel chair transfer techniques are also covered.
Being a Physical Therapy Aide will allow you to work alongside Physical Therapists in private practices and other health care fields, such as hospitals, clinics, and schools. You are a vital part in the recovery process for the injured person, helping patients improve their mobility and keep injuries from turning into permanent disabilities.
